Our Condolences – Bernice Hennessy (Mackean)

It is with great sadness that we announce that Bernice Hennessy (Mackean) passed away Saturday morning after a 9 month battle with leukemia. The MacKean family has been an integral part of the West Ottawa association for many years (the novice coaching award is named after Rob Mackean). Both Heather and Jenny Mackean played in West Ottawa for their entire ringette career, from Bunnies to Belle. Bernice was a key volunteer on teams and in the association for all those years.

Bernice was a dear friend to many and we will all miss her smile and humor at the rink. She truly believed it takes a village to raise a child and she happily drove many of our girls to games and practices and always made sure everyone was taken care of, even the coaches and parents. She showed incredible strength and courage after her husband, Rob, died suddenly 3 years ago.
So many of us have such wonderful memories of Bernice and we are blessed to have known her. Our hearts are with her 3 children, Aiden, Heather and Jenny, through this very difficult time.

Friends may pay their respects this coming Friday (Nov. 3rd) any time after noon, with a service to follow at 2:00 pm, at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery (3700 Prince of Wales Drive).

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation – Hematology Department are appreciated.

Condolences and memories may be shared here.
