Our girls proudly wear their West Ottawa gear and spend many hours in West Ottawa arenas each season. But there are residents in West Ottawa who are not so lucky and require generosity from many community members to put food on the table each week. A big part of being a well-rounded athlete is not just about what we do on the ice, but also what we do to help those in need. In an effort to give back, we will be assembling "birthday celebration kits" for the Kanata Food Cupboard. These kits will contain things like cake mix, frosting, candles, and balloons, and will be packaged in a foil pan that can also be used to bake the cake. The plan is to meet as a team at the Dollarama store at 844 March Rd. (please note the change from the original location), where players will be put into groups. Each group will be assigned an item or items to purchase and will be supervised by one of the team staff. Once we have all the items, we will go to the Kanata Food Cupboard warehouse (1240 Teron Rd., Unit 3) to assemble and decorate the kits. As mentioned, team staff will supervise each group, so parents are welcome to drop their players off at the Dollarama and pick them up later at the food cupboard. Please send $20 in cash with your player to help purchase the items. This should allow us to assemble around 14 birthday kits. Any excess will be returned with your player. Please also have your daughters wear West Ottawa gear as this will be a great team bonding experience! Location details: 9:15 am - drop off Dollarama: 844 March Rd.
